fingertips?<

You may remember that a few weeks ago I asked about people's
experiences with pumps used to bring in a milk supply. I was concerned
because our local pharmacy was phasing out it's Medela Lactina and
Classic pumps in favour of Medela Symphony pumps. I was looking for
information about how well the Symphony performed.

I would like to thank everyone who replied. It was interesting to read
the different opinions. I also talked to our local Medela salesperson.
She told me how *everyone was raving about the Symphony and how it was
being used at Rush in the NICU, and so I asked her for the studies
which showed it's superiority in INITIATING a milk supply.

She sent me a whole bunch of stuff. After I had put to one side the
purely promotional materials, there was just one study that even
mentioned this particular issue. Interestingly enough, this study,
only began AFTER a milk supply had been initiated with a CLASSIC pump.
I quote:
>Evaluating the Effectiveness of Different Breastpump Patterns.
Study conducted by Paula Meier, R.N., DNSc, FAAN
Summary of Study
In a recent study, members of the Rush Mothers' Milk Club, a
breastfeeding education and support program for mothers with premature
infants in the neonatal intensive care unit at Rush University Medical
Center in Chicago in Chicago, tested and compared pumping patterns. 35
moms initiated milk supply using the Classic breastpump then
switched to the Symphony to test maintenance.<

So there we have it. So far I have not seen any research into the
effectiveness of the Medela Symphony pump in initiating a milk supply,
as compared to other pumps. Please let me know if you have any leads.
