Kathryn,
I would suggest MoreMilkPlus from Motherlove instead of the drugs or in
combination w/ domperidone. I do tell mothers about Reglan, but discourage
its use due to side effects--most of my clients prefer the herbs or
domperidone. This is also where I talk about being an opportunist--trying to
do "feedings" at the breast doesn't often work--but making the breast very
available, esp a full breast can be quite different. Also, I am a huge fan of
co-bathing to restore the nursing relationship, b/c babies don't associate
this with feeding from a bottle and will often casually take the breast in
this relaxed way. Considering the reality of three other young children, I
would imagine the most organic, least structured approach might work best for
them, if she can let go of the pacifier and a feeding-time approach to
relactation. This does not mean some tools might be useful, but it seems best
to me to teach them and use them flexibly.
