Instead of saying a baby is allergic to his mother's milk, it would be
more correct to say that he is reacting to a substance in his mother's
diet.  :-)

That this baby didn't show symptoms until 6 weeks of age rang some bells
in my mind:  It is at the 6 week point when colostrum is no longer
present in milk (talking about term babies here.)  Colostrum, since it
"paints" the gut and decreases passage of substances from the gut to the
rest of the body, may have kept these substances from affecting the baby
until it was gone.

Just a thought.
