Several people have emailed me asking what an "FLK" is. "FLK" stands for
"Funny Looking Kid". Obviously it's not a technical term and wouldn't be
used in a report! It is a kind of ambiguous observation used when a kid
looks kind of funny but you can't really put your finger on what it is
about him- he's just kind of funny looking. Maybe his ears are different
looking or he has a big or small head or there's something odd about his
facial features, or he is especially hairy. When I see an "FLK", I'm
often on the lookout for accompanying problems because there are many
kids with unidentified syndromes or underlying genetic disorders.
