Jeannette's experience is similar to one I had. A mom who is pumping for a
friend gets 3 1/2 oz or so from one side, only 1/2 oz from the other. When
I asked if her baby prefers the higher yield side, she said he not only has
no preference, she hears equal swallowing on both sides. Out of curiosity,
I had her try the glass shield. On the high pumping yield side, the glass
shield hurt. On the low pumping yield side, it was a little uncomfortable,
but milk began flowing at a higher than usual rate. She lost interest
before I did, but I think the shield would certainly improve her yield on
that side, if not bring it up to the other side. Yet her baby, over 9
pounds at birth, has always done well on both sides.
