Dear Chris,
Am a hospital-based LC in Charlotte, NC and LN lurker...always enjoy your
posts.......I printed one out from a few weeks ago concerning: Plugged ducts,
mastitis and yeast......
I have been working with this mom on and off for 7 months....initially
seen for oversupply, green stools et al....responded to one-sided, postural
etc.......then she has several episodes of plugged ducts that were so painful
she sleeps sitting up....they do not respond to heat, cabbage, sage or
frequent emptying....
She takes lecithin , had had mastitis and requisite Rx (which at one pt I
thought a maintenance dose might help)...she would wean but there is eczema
hx, and a sensitivity to cow's milk and he will not take a cup well, let alone
a bottle......plus, she is a devout Jehovah Witness and is a calm, pragmatic
mom.....no hx of any of this for her first child....
I came on the scene again when her ob prescribed Parlodel!!! Last week
this happened and I thought there must be some pituitary stuff (adenoma) that
I was unaware of......this led to my becoming involved again...she was
nauseous to take the Parlodel more than 2 days and so she is back to
breast.......this past week she had a plug so painful it throbbed for 72 hours
before "clearing"...which she describes as almost a dissolving or release of
pressure in the duct area....she has a hx of vag. yeast in past and
antibiotics were given in the past months (she is on them right now...she had
cyst removed from armpits years ago...wondering about obstructed lymph areas??
Anyway, she is going to OB tomorrow and I have sent him resources about
pituitary, recurrent plugs/mastitis and cultures...and yeast, specifically
from the new Lawrence. Can you think of any thing else to be considered or
could yeast do all this....it is bilaterally and she rarely goes a week
without an occurrence.........ITA,
