Hi

To Chris (and all), I must admit that I have never actually seen the babies
"peeing pink urine". But on a couple of occasions I have been working with
an infant who had a dry diaper, then noticed that they had wet, and the
"brick dust" was present.

As far as I am concerned, I don't believe the crystals form after voiding.
An older pediatrician once told me that the uric acid crystals form during
gestation, and once the infant starts taking in fluids, they are flushed out.
Therefore they are normal, but only in the first few days after birth.
After that they may be a sign of dehydration.

I would also like to take this opportunity to let everyone know I am going
no-mail for a while - am travelling to Texas this week to lend morale support
to my sister, (who packed the trailer and resigned her job - THEN her house
sale fell through on the day she was supposed to close!). I should be back
in a few months, but should be reading LACTNET again soon, as she is also an
LC and on-line. Anyone trying to reach me can contact me through
[log in to unmask] until further notice.
