In the UK, it is an IM injection and I would guess virtually
everybody gets it - you have to argue for a 'physiological third
stage' and get it written into your notes this is what you want if
you want to avoid the injection.

My understanding is that it is important to have the whole package of
'physiological third stage' - no use withholding the injection and
the midwives still doing controlled cord traction to remove the
placenta, as this could be dangerous.
