Marijke Boele asks:
"How harmfull is the milk if the mother took Dostinex?
If a mother, who took Dostinex, wants to start bf again, how many day's does
she have to pump and dump her milk before she can put the baby on the breast
again?"

IF a mother who took Dostinex is still able to express milk I am almost
surprised. Here, it is given as a single dose of two tablets, and I am not
sure how much there is in each tablet. It is long-lasting in the body, about
two weeks, which is why it seems to be more effective than bromocriptine
(Parlodel, which is still available at least in Norway, for lactation
suppression).

Since very little is known about how much is excreted in milk, naturally,
because women who take it seem to stop producing milk very completely, it is
hard to advise about this. She will have to make that decision herself and
there isn't much solid knowledge to help her. If she does decide to pump (or
continue breastfeeding) until the effects of Dostinex are out of her system,
and still has a milk supply for her baby, please let Lactnet know because this
may be useful for others.
