Pam writes:
"Why are some so knowledgeable and some so clueless? This gap in
knowledge is proof that regardless of degrees, regardless of
education levels, regardless of method or standard of
education there is zero guarantee to the level of knowledge attained.
.. It seems to me that somewhere in their training and education
this would have been learned. "

and Kathy offers some scenarios as to why this might be from a med
student's perspective.

The reality is, as we all know, breastfeeding isn't really in any
doctor's purview and training in its practice doesn't happen very
much, or at least evenly. Some med schools are teaching a bit of
this subject, others aren't.

So I'd like to suggest that when you're laddled this nonsense,
privately note from whom it emminates and (try to) correlate it with
their medical education. Find out where they attended med school and
if you note a few doctors with a common med school displaying
uncommon ignorance, write a letter to the *med school* expressing
your concern with the curriculum.

I don't know whether this would really be effective in the end, but
at least it would be a truly proactive way to address the problem.
If, as stated, education is the problem, then address that at its
source. perhaps?
