A mother asked what would happen if her baby only fed from one breast - she
knows that her breasts would likely be uneven sizes (and my experience backs
that up) - *but* what about after the baby weans? Are they likely to
involute to an equal degree? or will she *always* be lop-sided?
I only have myself as an example, but here goes. My son was born cleft
affected and by a few months of age he was getting all of his milk from my left
side and spending no time at the right side. I gradually "weaned" from pumping
on the right side, and, although I continued to produce on the right, it was
very small amounts. I weaned during pregnancy (high-risk) and by the 3rd
trimester, I had essentially no milk production. My breasts were only very
slightly lopsided and I was the only one to notice it. While I was nursing, I
simply wore a small pad (actually a "push up pad from a Miracle bra) in my
right cup, this evened me out enough. Now that I am nursing again, my breasts
seem to be evened out mostly, when I get engorged (a regular event for me
still) the left is a bit larger, but only one hook on my nursing bras.
I know this is only one case scenario, but hopefully it will help. Sorry for
taking so long to reply.
