While I absolutely agree that we need IBCLCs from all walks of life to
enrich our knowledge and mother/baby care, and we need our IBLCE
requirements to support those pathways, I find the current "RNs bad",
"other LCs better" to be another version of the intolerance and globalized
judgements often vented on lactnet. Those kind of generalizations based on
a category, rather than seeing individuals, are also the basis of racism and
other cultural intolerance that leads to violence in so many societies.

It makes me despair that the very mothers we are tasked to help will be
subject to the same type of judgementalism, and implies a blindness on our
part to seeing the many ways of making breastfeeding and mothering work.

How can one make blistering generalizations based on a category and not have
that same mode of thinking apply elsewhere in life?

Jane Heinig wrote a piece about "Group Think" some years back in JHL which
might apply.
We need passion-- which I think fuels some of these statements and much of
our advocacy & work-- and compassion for each other as well.
