I have a frantic mom of a 7 month old who has an autoimmune disorder
called uveitis or iritis. She was given one dose of an unspecified
corticosteroid and is now taking 1 drop/hr 10ml solution of prednisolone
acetate eye drops and 20mg tablet prednisone 2X day. The drugs seem to be
non-negotiable due to the severity of her symptoms. The inflammations have
typically taken 4-6 weeks to stop. She was given a pregnancy test and told
to pump and dump.

I have looked in the Breastfeeding Answer Book and I see no
contraindication for prednisone, but the prednisolone is not listed in the
tables at all (only in the brand/generic name section). I do not have a
copy of Hale. Please, if anyone knows whether this mom really needs to
dump the milk, let me know as soon as possible. Baby is very, very upset
and does not take a bottle.
