Dear Jay Simpson and all,
This is a little off topic, but last winter an MD prescribed a cough
suppressant called benzonatate and it worked wonderfully!! Especially at
bedtime. As one who is allergic to codiene, it was great to have an
alternative.

Also, I think the term HCP (health care provider) has become popular
in the wake of care providers who are not MDs. The saying used to be,
"Talk to your Dr." With the emergence of so many nurse practitioners,
physician assistants, advance practice RNs, midwives, etc, now the saying
is, "Talk to your HCP."
I, too, am curious how the term lactation consultant was coined. I
love being one, but the title can get long when introducing yourself many
times a day on follow-up telephone calls. Sometimes a patient will ask
for the "Lactician", and I'm sure many of the veterans on this list have
heard dozens of title variations, many of them humurous. Warm
regards to all,
     Susan Potts RN IBCLC Minnesota
