Hey all,

Ear infections are caused by bacteria coming from the nasal passages.
Breastmilk is protective against infection. Formula is not.

The risk of ear infections is increased in children not breastfed because of the
lack of breastmilk, not because there is anything in ABM that causes them. If
you don't have the infection fighting-immune system benefits of breastmilk,
you are at increased risk of bacterial infection and therefore ear infections.

There are anatomic issues that predispose kids to the easier transfer of
bacteria from the nose to the ear, but the cause of otitis media is infection.
