Hi Laura,

I'm not at work today otherwise I could give you the specifics of what
tubing I use. Feel free to email me @ [log in to unmask] if you
need the name of the exact tubing I use. It is a long (30 inches?) #5
French tubing that is stiff enough to insert into corner of baby's
mouth. I have tried various places to place the tubing but this seems
the easiest.

Usually if baby will nurse in the cradle or cross-cradle
(transitional) hold, it is easy to gently move the baby's cheek pad to
find the corner of his mouth and then advance the tubing approx 1.5 cm
(I'm estimating by looking at a ruler here). The easiest way is for
mother to have a helper do this. If it's the first days of
breastfeeding, mother will often have a helper. If it's a longterm
need for supplementation, then there will have to be a way for mother
to do this by herself.

Some women use a long piece of "paper tape" which is what I call a
thin, easy to tear tape that we have in hospital. It can also be
bought in stores. Some women place one or more small rectangular
bandaids and slide the tubing under the little wound pad section,
securing it that way. Hope this is helpful. It can get a little
tricky.
