Kathy Bredbeck's comments on BF in hospital as a public place are SO to the
point! Few places are more challenging esp. if you and your baby are new at
the game. Plus, Kathy has given us a new snappy comeback, though I will
have to search for an opportunity to use it where I live ("after all I
wasn't masturbating, I was simply feeding my child" - love it).

Lately I've been feeling disenchanted with the state of things here, mainly
because BF to one year is considered 'prolonged' by many people I work with.
The discussion on public BF reminds me of what I have to be thankful for.
The issue of public BF has come up approximately 3 times that I can recall,
in all the time I have worked with BF. That's once every 5 or 6 YEARS. In
at least two of those cases the women were foreigners of the
English-speaking persuasion.

OTOH if anyone has any good suggestions for how to keep from marginalizing
or stigmatizing mothers who feed their babies by bottle, I could use them.

Come to think of it, I lied. A number of mothers have brought up public
breastfeeding, but in the context of 'I'm so glad it's getting easier - my
definition of BF proficiency is to be able go to my favorite café with my
baby and breastfeed nonchalantly while having my espresso.' I am not making
this up.
