dear barbara,

thanks so much for the technical data ( i must get that book). what you have
mentioned certainly sounds exactly what i have seen seeing in these cases. one
of the main things is getting the mother to hang in there for the long haul of
getting the baby through the process.

one of the reasons i asked these particular parents to stop using the pacifier
was to encourage more skin to skin contact, because it seemed lacking. that's
the relation to the parenting methods comments i included in this description.
instead, i have them interacting with the baby by doing the tongue thing and
so forth. the mother reports tonight that the father seems to be more adept at
this than she, even having cut her fingernails quite short (a good sign that
she did this), which all sounds like progress to me.
