I've been thinking about the resource center suggestions and trying to also
think back to 20 months ago when my twins were born and what would have
appealed to me then. One thing that comes to mind is cleanliness. You
absolutely don't want clinical sterility. You do want homey comfort. What
brought this to mind was a visit I made to a pediatrician's office. The
upholstery on the waiting room chairs was stained and obviously dirty (who
knows how many little feet had been climbing on them). Even the wooden arms
needed a good scrubbing. I love the idea of a loveseat or cozy chair but I
think it might be a good idea to have a couple of washable slipcovers so
that as they become soiled they can easily be refreshed. Especially for
preemie moms who have been well schooled in constant use of hand sanitizer
and avoiding taking their baby out for fear of RSV infections, soiled fabric
would be frightening rather than relaxing.
