Hello,

I am a recently certified IBCLC, and new subscriber to LACTNET.

I was a Washington State Licensed Midwife for eight years, before going on my "maternity leave" with my second baby. That baby is approaching four years old now (and still nursing every now and again :)), and I am reentering practice as a doula and IBCLC. I teach at the Seattle Midwifery School, and have a Master of Public Health from the University of Washington. I have been active in public policy and legislative work with the Midwives Association of Washington State for many years, having worked extensively on getting Medicaid to pay for home births in Washington State (which they have done since 2001), and on improving consultation relationships between Licensed Midwives and physicians. I am excited to be getting back to work, and focussing on breastfeeding, which was always one of my favorite parts of midwifery.

So, I have a question for folks: does anyone know of a source of professional liability insurance for IBCLCs who are not nurses or midwives, and who are in private practice? I would appreciate hearing about sources of insurance that IBCLCs use, even if they are nurses, too, since I can research further once I know some names.

Thank you,
Sarah Huntington, CPM, MPH, IBCLC
