Hi Karla,

I wrote:
I was going to quote a past editor of the South African Medical Journal
who said that the only reason he knew of that would make a woman
unable to breastfeed, would be a bilateral mastectomy!

Oh, but that's still a fully adequate quote!! Practically ALL women can
breastfeed. It's still breastfeeding, even if your baby needs
supplemental feeding on the side.

I liked that idea when someone said, "Every woman can "nurse"! But
writing for a glossy parenting mag, makes it hard to put that kind of
thing across. The readers are just not that kind of women.

By the way, anyone, what is the percentage of PCOS?

I am wondering about something else. We know stress knocks out
oxytocin. Most women are stressed these days. Could that be a factor
in the point made that more and more women have an inadequate
supply?

Another point... I have been through 30 years of primal therapy. We
now know that early chidhood pain and trauma actually alters the brain
(Allan Schore, UCLA, Sue Gerhardt, UK). It may alter the hormone
system too -- Janov says it does. Can this be a factor?

Best wishes,
Pat (Cape Town)
