I have worked with a patient who had prenatal mastitis which developed into an abscess.

When she contacted her Dr. to report a growing lump and tenderness in her breast during pregnancy, the nurse she spoke with on her insurance company 'nurse line' told her that her , "....milk came in early". Thus she did not get those symptoms followed up.

She ended up delivering prematurely. Her breast required I&D and it was determined she had group A streptococcus. It was miserable for her.
