displaying the institutions philosophy on non-use of commercial artificial
baby milk. How do any of you have it displayed???"

Baby-friendly hospitals can develop their own written Policy, based on the
WHO/UNICEF 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and display the Policy in
all areas, e g wards, waiting areas, nurses stations etc. Step 6 of the 10
Steps says "Give newborn infants no food or drink other than breast milk,
unless *medically* indicated." The medical indications are few and very
specific. Hospitals could also state that they support the International
Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes in their Policy. The Policy is
required to be communicated to all staff. At one of the hospitals I
assessed we counted the Policy posted in 23 different places.
