In their lactation certification course, Karin and Edith mentioned research which
shows how much a mother nurtures and bonds with her infant at birth, is directly correlated to how much she has been touched and nurtured during the labor process.

So we enhance the couplets interaction, with all the touching and cooing we
do, and get the family and friends to do, during labor and the delivery itself.
But how often does everyone stop all that touching once mom has meds or
an epidural, as if to say, oh no pain, well you don't need our nurturing any more.

An aside to all, and Karin and Edith: In their course they also mentioned that the last thing that gives information efficacy is that you "heard it somewhere in
a course." As soon as I find and unpack the right box, I will be able to cite the studies as well. Also will be able to give those who have asked, the proper
titles and organization and addresses for Karin & Edith. I start a four week
vacation/cleaning spree today.
