Helen,   I do not thing the Crock Pot idea would not be acceptable in the NICU.  Community warming, the possibility of leaking bottles & cross contamination , along with  warm standing water which is also a potential breeding ground for bacterial would be a concern  all .   A day care with older more healthy children is very different than the preterm, and sick infants  in the NICU who are more susceptible and less able to fight  infection  Just as the full term newborn is able to handle things better than the preterm.  Our hospital uses Styrofoam or waxed paper cups to warm breastmilk at bedside or to thaw.  Separate baby - separate cup - Labeled - one every 24 hours or more often as needed.

This reminds me of the mom, some years ago, brought in a "baby wipe warmer".  These were plugged in and kept the wipes warm.  It also grew bacteria in its nice warm dark container.  We had several sick infants from these.

When dealing with the NICU or compromised infant or child one must think beyond the norm.  Just my opinion.

Hi! Christy,
I spoke to a woman who works in a daycare as to how they warm EBM.  She told
me they use a crockpot. Perhaps that would be a solution for the NICU also.
The nurses could keep it on all the time.  The water would stay at the
needed temperature.
