I recall an article in JHL some years back where it was postulated that postpartum hemorrhage can produce ischemia of the pituitary which can inhibit the hormonal triggering of lactogenesis by prolactin.  (see reference below.)  This of course only covers those instances of anemia that are related to hemorrhage and in my experience certainly does not apply across the board.  But it could explain why some women with pp anemia have issues with milk supply (ie: those that suffer pituitary ischemia) and others do not.
