The mom whose nipples had been raw for 7 weeks was at
support group on Thursday. She said her nipples are
improving, but I didn't see them.

Interesting tidbit re her difficulty making enough milk--she
had 5 years of infertility--hormonally based. We gave her
the name of a local reproductive endocrinologist who
specializes in infertility and adoptive nursing.

Second tidbit in the "for what it's worth" department. One
of the moms in the group related that her sister (I think)
found that every time she drank a popular sports drink
(which contains primarily water, sugar, and electrolytes)
she made more milk. Has anyone ever heard of this? We
suggested she try it since it seems a relatively innocuous
intervention (and it certainly wouldn't hurt this mom to
have a few additional calories).

Anyway, the mother is almost exclusively breastfeeding. She
said she cries the whole time she feeds the 2 oz. of formula
a day which baby seems to need to be satisfied. She said
she nurses most of the day, and I believe her.
Incidentally, one of the moms suggested that she switch
sides whenever the baby begins pulling back and shaking his
head. I told her I thought that was an excellent idea, so
she says she will try switch nursing.

If you have comments, please recall that I am NOMAIL, so
please send them privately as well as to the list.
