First of all, let me give a BIG thank you to all of you who shared ideas for the hospital employee pumping lounge. I incorporated all of the information and submitted a 3 tiered proposal of what is needed- the best, average, just enough. In these tough economic times I remain grateful that we are getting a dedicated room and we will make it work, even if I have to decorate and provide comforts with donations! (I dont think it will come to that).

I have a pregnant, 29 yr old client who has had 3 children, all of which were formula fed. She states she never had any milk during what we think is the normal time frame after delivery. This was the same with each baby. But she did get milk somewhere between 10-14 days postpartum, she was very full with milk for about 24 hours and then it rapidly declined. She did not start any birth control hormones, she is not aware of retained placenta, she had normal pregnancies, normal deliveries without pain meds, she is not aware of any thyroid problems, her periods have always been regular off or on birth control pills. She did use Depo once for birth control(one shot) and she did not get pregnant for a year. She had a lump removed from one breast between baby 1 and 2, she filled with milk as if there had been no surgery.

Any ideas of what might be happening with her? She would like to try to breastfeed with this last baby. I am anticipating how to help her with milk production that will occur sooner rather than later. Ofcourse early stimulation will be #1 on the list. Please offer any other suggestions. Mother is of limited means and must return to work in 6 weeks.
