I'm experiencing some frustration lately. We are getting ready for an
inspection. Lactating women are considered a nutritionally high risk group
and so documentation of nutrition counseling is required. I do supply basic
nutrition information as an LC. Our dietician never sees any of these
patients unless they are insulin dependent diabetics or the physician
writes an order. Our dietician seems to have no resources, limited
handouts, and no non-English literature. I seem to find more as an LC and
childbirth educator. Her excuse is she has no budget and limited staff. Is
she passing the buck? I believe in team care and this team seems to be
short a member. Any LC/ dieticians like to feed back? what are good
sources of nutrition in lactation that are low cost or available to copy?
I'm disappointed in what I see in the ADA webpage on culturally adjusted
diet pyramids.
