Hi Ladies,
As an outside observer, I am puzzled that Renee and Maria are taking the lead on this issue. Both are not residents of Newark and Renee is not even American.
Is it that this is not viewed as important action? (unlikely) Or is it difficult to support . . . b/c people are overwhelmed with other issues (likely to some extent, we all are after all), or is speaking on this issue particularly sensitive? Or are things happening from within the system that outsiders can't understand/know?
The USBC, according to their website, have a campaign to "Keep Infant Formula Marketing Out of Healthcare Facilities"
http://citizen.org/Page.aspx?pid=5378
One would think the mandate can be expanded to respond to the more sophisticated strategies on the part of Nestle to infiltrate health services, beyond the hospital setting . . .
How about nofreelunch or ban the bags? Would they be interested? Maybe the are already involved?
Wishing for more clarity . . .
And wishing for a world where infant feeding was free of commercial interests.
