Thee's a doctor here in NYC who insists that all babies gain an ounce a day.
I have had mothers call me in hysterics that their baby "only" gained (for
instance) 26 ounces in 30 days, and the doctor has therefore told them that
they are incapable of producing enough milk!

I have found it helpful to talk to these moms about what a normal weight gain
is and to suggest that they get another opinion from a different doc -- one
who has some breastfeeding knowledge.

Heaven only knows how many breastfeeding relationships this particular doc
has sabotaged. :-(( And no, he apparently doesn't listen to LCs as to what
an appropriate weight gain is.
