It is analogous to free speech if you believe that companies have the
same rights as individuals. The American system of law does believe
that. Other systems don't. I'm  not a lawyer, so I don't understand all
the implications of that, but I know that it puts businesses at a big
advantage in many areas, money and free speech being two of them. Can
anyone shed any more light on this issue?

I do believe, as Jo-Anne said, that, over all, people are smart enough
to get it right, given half a chance. However, I'm not sure that the
current climate of advertising and social pressure gives them half a
chance. The same was true about smoking when I was a child and that has
changed, so I'm hopeful about bfing,
