Just a quick update (bet ya'll thought I couldn't write a short note! maybe
I can't!)

Infant is still having green stools but gained 1 pound and 5 ounces over the
past month from October 4 until today November 5.. Pediatrician told mom
yesterday that he is starting to be concerned about this lack of adequate
weight gain... (he had lost a few ounces the month before) The doctor told
the dad on Monday that if the baby did not start doing better they may
hospitalize him so that they can document how much mom and dad are really
feeding him. Mom states that he insinuated that they weren't really feeding
him enough. The doctor also feels that the baby should be getting formula
altogether and no breastmilk since he feels that mom's milk may be the
problem and that the baby is not getting enough because mom does not have
much milk and baby is wasting energy and feedings on nursing. Dad did not
feel as though doc believed his account of how much he is eating. Mom has
been nursing him about 8+times/ 24 hours and supplementing with anywhere
from 4-6 ounces of formula 4+ times/ 24 hours, he usually takes 4 ounces.
Test weights done periodically since all this started range anywhere from
1.6-4.5 ounces and these feedings are often at our support group and
according to mom not his ideal or average feeding (this of course based on
how much he usually nurses and how empty she feels afterward)

He is still behind on his weight though and not likely to catch up really
soon since the doctor is not really moving very fast to find out what is
going on . (no doubt because he thinks it is caused by the parents) Infant
has started liking the bottle or at least seeming to during the day. Mom
thinks this might be because he can get it in sips without having to get a
let down again each time he comes off. He takes frequent breaks on the
bottle just like he does on the breast but with the bottle it is always
flowing. Mom is pumping also and giving breast milk with the formula
supplement... Nutramigen (hypoallergenic formula). Some days he will nurse
well and take several ounces of formula after most feedings and no spitting
up. The next day he is off and on the breast, taking less formula and spits
up all day. He still is having very dark blackish green stool but does not
have bowel movements every day anymore. He now has them every few days
instead. Mom states the consistency has changed a little, but it is very
liquidy now and very foul smelling.

Mom started on Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle on Wednesday to help boost her
supply and she is trying to either increase number of feedings or pump when
he is not interested. At this point though he pretty much stays off and on
the breast throughout the day and nurses very well late evening, middle of
the night and early morning. They also started infant on acidophilus liquid
1/3 teaspoon 3 times a day on the recommendation of dad's aunt who "works
with that kind of stuff and knows a lot about herbs" I am not sure if she
is an herbalist/nutritionist or what.

He has an appointment with a gastrointestinal doctor on Tuesday and at some
point is suppose to be having a sweat test but that is not scheduled yet.

Sorry... credit for trying to be brief? :)
