I've been following this trend and thinking that I can't believe that people
are applying pressure to a baby's chin to attempt latch-on. I have never
used this technique for opening wide for latch-on. I do a light touch to the
baby's chin as I slightly tip a baby back to look at his palate and oral
cavity and it works great. I don't like doing anything to a baby that is
forceful or causes the baby stress especially when helping the mother and
baby with latch on. I much prefer to have the mother tickle the baby's top
lip with the nipple until the baby decides to open his mouth. Takes a lot of
patience with some babies, but being a mother requires a lot of patience.
Babies are people and if someone pressed on my chin I might have to bite them
because it would make me mad. JMHO

Warmly,
