Dear Friends:
All the evidence shows that the greatest pollution of babies occurs
during pregnancy. Human milk is easy to study..........doesn't hurt to take a
sample (like blood), contains fat and water-soluable elements (unlike pee), and is
constantly under attack. So we read about the levels of X and Y, PCBs and
such in milk. Read this month's National Geographic, about the NPR reported that
was tested for everything and found to have toxic levels of many, many
chemicals.
I believe, from personal experience and from clinical practice, that this
fundamental pollution of our young will be the health problem of the next
generations.
I've been reading James Akre's book, the Problem with Breastfeeding; it
is essential reading for all of us, giving models and motivation and expresses
a lovely accuracy of language.
"Women shouldn't stop smoking/breastfeed/use car seats unless the
resources are available and they choose to do so. Sometimes people just can't put
babies in car seats"..............tongue drilling hole through cheek here!
    warmly,
