I was just informed that the AWHONN meeting that I was going to speak at is
going to have formula booths set up. I can't get a straight answer from the
person if the formla companies are sponsoring this event or not.
(therefore, I'm assuming they are) As a LC, I should not speak at any
engagement where formula is sponsoring the event. Right? And, am I doing
this because it breaches my "code of ethics", or because formula companies
breach the "WHO code", or both?

What if I start off saying something about the conflict of interest (as
stated in our code of ethics, #17)?
What if the formula company only has booths set up? I know they are not
speaking. If they are "instructing" health care workers and not the general
public, is it OK?

I am absolutely not locked in to this speaking engagement! I don't want to
do it if it is breaching my LC code of ethics!
It could be a great opportunity to suggest they speak to the formula reps
about the new guidelines on mixing powdered formula, and the new guidelines
to use ready to feed formula if the baby is under 2 months of age, but not
to use the canned ready to feed, as the lining contains too much
BpA.............then jump into the ready to feed, perfect in every way
breastmilk! (perfect container, perfect temp.........)

I appreciate all your thoughts and help in this matter!
