Giving routine massage to a new born baby and the new mother is a ritual in Nepali(Asain) Culture. They get massage at least twice a day in a warm room. Mom gets at least for 1-2months. Baby gets at least for a year depending on families.

I understand that mamma cats and dogs have to lick their babies' bellies
so they will pee and poop; mom eats all the elimination.
Please remember Tiffany Field PhD and her research showing that premies
that were massaged once a shift for 15 minutes for 5-10 days gained more
weight (on the same amount of food as the non-massaged controls) and went home
sooner.
We have to promote the right hormonal climate for a baby to gain too.
