Regarding herbs to increase or maintain milk in pregnancy: an interesting
new study to read is in Pediatrics, Vol. 109 No.4, April 2002 entitled
"Postpartum Consequences of an Overlap of Breastfeeding and Pregnancy:
Reduced Breast Milk Intake and Growth During Early Infancy.

I'll quote the conclusion, but it's really the kind of thing one ought to
read in entirety, because I don't think they were trying to make absolute
statements about shoulds and shouldn'ts...that said, it brings up a can of
worms!

"Conclusions. A lactation-pregnancy overlap had a negative effect on early
infant outcomes. Additional studies are needed to determine whether the
effect continues past 1 month of age."

Again, I am not trying to argue against an overlap, but I think this is
interesting and worth discussion. When I read it, it broght to mind vaguely
some comments Katherine Dettwyler has made in the past regarding other
cultures and weaning, pregnancy, etc. I can't remember the exact words so
I'll let her comment if she so chooses!
