Does anyone have any information on whether or not infant's of mothers with HSV or MRSA should be bathed immediately after delivery, or can bathing be delayed?

We delay bathing unless the mother is positive for HIV, Hep B or Hep C. I have read that some hospitals also include HSV and MRSA as well.

I have also heard that delayed bathing may reduce GBBS infections in newborns, but have not been able to find research evidence to support this. Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Tricia Shamblin, RN, IBCLC
