Jay,
Sounds to me like "Elaine" needs considerable training in counselling
skills, specifically listening skills, before she has a hope of being
useful as a Peer 'Counsellor'. This is so basic to counselling in any
field, being able to listen effectively. Is this part of her training?
Could she attend a general counselling skills course outside our your
institution? I think you need to talk to your supervisor about your
feelings about "Elaine", and whether she truly has the potential to be an
effective counsellor.
