Every time an issue like this comes up, I see lots of replies where people are
taking mom to task for being "bad", and giving suggestions for other possible
ways to get the effect she desires, but no real attempt to meet the mother
where she is--that is, giving empirical info on the possibility of this
certain drug. We should be shooting for informed consent, right?

That philosophical matter aside, when I was pregnant I was surprised to do
research on "natural" pain relief which brought up some articles that
suggested that the use of marijuana in labor has some basis in historical
evidence. I would point mom in this direction, as well as getting good
evidence as to what the negative effects to mom and baby could be. This kind
of respectful, measured,
response is, I think, how we can really help moms.

Back to breastfeeding?
