To Mary

I don't have any published documentation about red nipple use being a cause
of poor oral development, but from experience I know that the red or premie
nipple is softer and has a faster flow than the standard yellow nipple, which
is firmer and has a slower flow. HOWEVER, Jack Newman is right- any baby
ready for an artificial nipple is ready for the real thing- mother's nipple.
I if mother is available baby should go on the breast, irregardless of baby's
size, weight, or gestational age.
