I keep wondering if the increase in GERD we see in Canada might be linked to
the recommendation by the Canadian Pediatric Society that all breastfed
babies be given Vitamin D drops.

When my second baby was born, the public health nurse who visited me at home
soon after was adamant that she be given a Vitamin D supplement every day.
Lisa was born in October, and the nurse said this supplement was essential
to get through the winter. I complied, and Lisa started to throw up every
day, several times a day. And she was quite miserable. When I saw my doctor,
I told her that this had started after I started giving the Vitamin D, and
she said "Well, stop giving it then. It isn't necessary anyway!" As soon as
I stopped, the vomiting and crying stopped. I never gave another of my
babies Vitamin D drops.

Obviously many babies take these supplements without a problem, but we know
that some babies are sensitive to certain things, and I know Lisa was very
sensitive to those drops. I can't help but wonder if at least a few of those
GERD babies have the same problem.
