An angry mom suggested recently that the numbers of
women who can't produce enough milk for their babies
is way underestimated in the US and it *must* be more
than even the "pesky 4%" we hear. She went on to say
that surely the numbers of lactation failure in Africa
are as high as the US, but what I have gleaned here is
that women in cultures where breastfeeding is crucial
or expected to work, know how to fix problems (tight
frenula, yeast, maybe even cleft palate?) and don't
prevent the others from occurring. I assume very high
rates of success in Sweden where we hear of 99%
breastfeeding.

can someone verify this or am I deluding myself about
the determination of women when left with their
cultural knowledge and support?

And did/do hunter/gatherer babies go though periods
when they can't stand to be in one spot for more than
a few moments? or have humans all had their fussy
periods of the day? :-)
