I am not sure how big the BMJ is in north america, but it is big here in the
UK. Today a clinical review of breastfeeding is published:
Breast feeding
Pat Hoddinott, David Tappin, Charlotte Wright
BMJ 2008;336:881-887, doi:10.1136/bmj.39521.566296.BE

You will see that the Baby Friendly Initiative is given top billing as a way
of addressing our UK issues with poor breastfeeding initiation and duration
rates. Since the NICE guidelines about 2 years ago, BFI has become
mainstream in this country -- not that everywhere is doing it, but
everywhere is now considering it. I saw the programme director of UNICEF UK
BFI on WEdnesday and she says they are starting to be rushed off their feet
-- good news!
Anyway, if you can access, enjoy the review! I was one of the people who
read it in draft and helped grapple with it -- the BMJ was very strict about
the focus (of use to doctors, esp GPs) and the word count.
