Nestle here seems to be trying to keep their image squeaky clean. As far as
I know, they do not have direct contact with mothers any more. One rep told
me that the Code only applied to third world countries!

I do have a problem with a formula company providing *any* literature
regarding breastfeeding! Why promote a product in opposition to yours? It
does not make marketing sense - until you read the subtleties in some of the
literature.

I am not aware of Nestle distributing the Code. A couple of years ago they
did distribute their rebuttal to IBFANs accusations of their Code
violations.

Fairly recently they have asked the Health Departments in all nine provinces
to sign a document stating that Nestle abides by the Code. One or two
provinces did until a dietician working in the health dept in the W.Cape
pointed out how ridiculous this was.

I have heard of recent violations in India - anyone have details?

Even if the company does go about its business ethically in the third
world - why different standards for different countries? The Internet
crosses all geographical boundaries and there are some Nestle sponsored
websites that violate the Code! The parent company needs to get its act
together!
