In Response to:  "Permission to post: Mother is 48 years old, first
baby, 1 week old. Mother says she is pumping whenever baby is not at
breast which is every 2-3 hours and she can get a few drops out of right
breast and a teaspoon or so out of left breast. Baby definitely hungry
and frustrated after feedings and mom is supplementing due to definite
lack of production. "  

Have you reviewed mothers medical history?  Is there a medical reason
that she is having her first baby at age 48?  It certainly may be a
decision but as a woman ages, there is increased risk and incidence of
medical problems such as infertility, hormonal, diabetes, thyroid issues
that may be contributing to the supply issue.  It does not only have to
be lochia flow.  Did her bleeding increase with increased activity.  Not
the only etiology to consider.
