first, congratulations and well done to all the new IBCLCs! what a tremendous
accomplishment, and may their numbers continue to increase.

in the discussion of flagyl, i find myself remembering some other famous dr.
newman remarks on medications as given to children versus adults, and at what
age the medication has been approved for, etc.especially as my son is doing
an allergy medication study. at age three, he was given flagyl to cure
giardiasis (another lovely feature of the lovely rocky mountain area). so at
what age does this dangerous and deadly medication become routinely used? i
often feel, especially when i am on call (this week), that the entire object
of every medical encounter is to discourage breastfeeding!

but on to the funny stuff! apparently all of the great minds on lactnet
either don't watch tv, or watch serious stuff, maybe the history channel or
the get your advanced degrees channel, but at our house we watch the
Simpsons. yep, and us low lifes let the kids watch too. there was a
breastfeeding funny on one of the episodes this week, in which Marge (the
mother) is shown viewing her "twin" sons, one of whom is Bart and one of whom
is his evil twin. the doctor is holding up both, and the "evil" twin is
biting the other twin with exaggeratedly large teeth. the doctor tells her
that one is evil, and she covers her breasts with both hands and says, "I
believe I'll bottle feed that one."

well, my kids and i laughed, at any rate!
