I suspect that the med Lori refers to is actually Haldol (haloperidol),
which is in fact an antipsychotic, not an antidepressant. Hale doesn't say
it's contraindicated, but advises caution & observation for sedation,
weakness in baby.

In my non-physician opinion, unless this woman is in a hypermanic phase &
tends to stay there long-term, I think Haldol is probably not the greatest
choice of meds; it can be *very* sedating - it's a drug that's frequently
used to "zonk out" out-of-control pts. during a psychotic episode. And it's
not a great drug if there's a depression component going on along with
hyper-mania.

Help me out here, docs! Where's Jack when you need him? I seem to remember
learning here on lactnet that lithium is *not* contraindicated during BFing,
which was new info to me. It can be really hard to get a psychiatrist to
work with the meds/BFing thing - most of them go by the PDR recs, which are
almost always "not compatible w/BFing", and (I'm sure out of caution and
with the best intentions) are very cautious about "allowing" -grrr! - BFing
w/meds. Any psychs among our number?

I am not a doctor, nor a pharmacist, nor do I play one on TV!
