I am trying once again to help a women with probably ductal yeast infection
(burning pain with and after nursing). Use of topical treatment of the mom
and oral treatment of the baby with nystatin has not helped. As diflucan is
not covered by her health insurance, I wanted to first try the regimen in
Riordan and Auerbach of using oral nystatin. The pharmacist however said
the the oral nystatin (the one we use on thrush in babies) is not
systemically absorbed. Is there a different of oral nystatin or does it not
matter? Also any tips on treating ductal yeast are welcome. My last two
experiences did not end successfully but it that case the mothers also had
recurrent mastitis. Hopefully this will be better.
